School’s Out...Art’s IN!

On “no school” days bring your children to FVAC for a daylong program in the arts. Each day features two different, exciting and engaging art projects. Two FVAC instructors will be on hand, each leading students through the creative process for part of the day. Morning and afternoon breaks are planned for organized play, quiet time or a snack. Wear old clothes and bring lunch, a water bottle and a snack. All materials are included.
Register for one day or for all days.
Time: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Tuition: $75 per day ($68 members)
Register for the entire spring recess: $338
Ages: 7 – 10 years (2nd – 5th grades)

April 21: Spend the morning with Jim Brunelle making polymer clay sculptures! Create your own unique art books with Olivia Hanzel in the afternoon.

April 22: Crazy, Colorful Collages and Mixed Media Fun with Paula Billups followed by Cartooning and Comic Book Art with Matt Ryan.

April 23: Create Whimsical 3-D Mobiles with Paula Billups and use found objects to construct your own funky robots, "Junkbots," with Joan Shackford.

April 24: "It's a Jungle Out There!" Funky mixed-media masks with Jim Brunelle followed by Tribal Art and Jewelry with Olivia Hanzel.

April 25: Another creative installation of Comic Bok Art and Cartooning with Matt Ryan and Printmaking with Jaon Shackford.


Art for 4 & 5 Year Oldswith Olivia Hanzel

Send your child on a creative journey exploring various art mediums and processes such as painting, sculpture, collage, and drawing. Utilizing our imaginations we will study artists through the ages and capture the essence of their styles. Students will learn basic art concepts and skills as well as how to care for tools and materials. Individualized instruction and small group size encourages self-expression and celebrates each child’s inner artist! Three and a half year-olds are welcome to register. Young Artists Program for Ages 6-8 with Olivia Hanzel

Celebrate your child’s inner Picasso! With emphasis on creative thinking and fun, students will explore various artistic mediums in exciting ways. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, and other media students will learn basic art concepts such as 2-D and 3-D design, color mixing and composition. Please wear old clothes.

Saturday Morning Art Workshop for Kids with Paula Billups

Come to draw, paint, sculpt, explore collage, create puppets, make new friends, and have a ball! Each class will include artistic instruction including line value, 3-D, design, and color theory. Projects will bring art history alive for children as each project will correspond to the style or medium of a master artist. This class is appropriate for all elementary-school aged children.

Cartooning and Comic Book Art for Ages 9 and Up
with Matt Ryan

Create your own comic book characters and give them life by learning easy ways to show movement and action. Your characters will fly, jump and swing to save the world! Discover your own style, comic book story, superhero or all three. Comic book drawing instruction will be taught including line value, perspective, shading, and much more. Once you have learned the basics and collected your ideas, put it all together! You will layout and finish your own comic book pages. For inspiration bring your favorite comic, manga or comic strip to class.

Drawing and Painting for Teens with Matt Ryan

Matt Ryan’s popular Friday course is pushing the boundaries. Cartoonists and artists ages 12 and up will develop skills and work on individual projects. We’ll explore drawing, painting using watercolor and acrylics, and work from still-life, photographs and the imagination. Those focusing on cartooning and comic book art will develop knowledge of perspective and create original characters drawn in awesome poses in different angles. Emphasis will be on creativity and individual expression. This course fills quickly – don't wait to register!

Summer Art Adventures

Eight weeks of summer fun. Kids aged 4 & 5 and 6 & 7 work in separate groups to fill summer with fun and creativity while learning basic art skills. Projects include instruction in painting and drawing, sculpture, 2-D and 3-D design, collage, and lots of fun with our imaginations! Each week has it’s own theme and is designed to deliver a new adventure. Many projects are literacy-based. Instructors have significant experience working with younger children. The program meets daily from 9:00 – 11:30am. Early registration is recommended.

Week One (June 30 – July 3 – no class July 4):
The sky’s the limit! Explore space, flight and the sky. Tuition: $132 for 4-day holiday week ($119 members)

Week Two (July 7 – 11):
Squish it, build it, paint it! Use different types of clay to create.

Week Three  (July 14 – 18):
The Artists’ Garden: More master painters who worked in their gardens…including us.

Week Four (July 21 – 25):
ArtVentures on the Seven Seas! Beaches, pirates, jellyfish, waves, and mermaids.

Week Five (July 28 – August 1):
Funky Fairytales on Stage! Dress up and mess up your favorite fairy tales.

Week Six (August 4 – 8):
Magic Maps: Global Art – Create your way around the world.

Week Seven  (August 11 – 15):
It’s a Jungle Out There! Monkeys, rainforests, birds, bugs, and waterfalls.

Week Eight    (August 18 – 22):
Lights, Camera, Action: Baby, you’re a star!

            Tuition: $165 per week ($148 members)
